2022-12-10
The Sanya City Economic Zone on Hainan Island plans to accelerate tourism development in line with advanced international standards in 2023, the Hainan Daily newspaper reports.

According to the newspaper, local authorities intend to implement 222 projects in the foreseeable future to stimulate development of the tourism industry, with investments exceeding 252 billion yuan ($35.8 billion at the current exchange rate). It is expected that the projects will significantly increase the popularity of Sanya and in the next 10-12 years to substantially strengthen its status as an international-class resort.

According to the official plan, in addition to creating conditions for the most comfortable beach holiday, the city will step up efforts to organize travel to the tropical forest zone, which is located to the north of Sanya. At the same time, the authorities plan to develop the entertainment industry, promote the formation of exciting cultural programs aimed at different categories of tourists.

Sanya, as noted, intends to dynamically develop transport and energy infrastructure, and introduce advanced forms of agriculture. Particular attention in the process of strengthening the city's economic zone capacity will be paid to innovation, the establishment of a strong research base in the field of selective breeding, aerospace, and oceanic projects.

Sanya is China's leading resort, home to more than 1 million people. In 2021, its gross product reached 83.5 billion yuan (approximately $13.2 billion), an increase of 12.1%. Its average annual temperature is 25.4 degrees Celsius, and its coastline is more than 200 km long. There are 19 bays in the surrounding waters and approximately 40 recreational islands, all of which allow the local government to successfully develop yacht tourism and beach holidays.
