The city of Sanya on the southern coast of Hainan Island has created 11 model villages, which achieve sustainable development through a model of close cooperation between the government, the population and the commercial sector. This was reported by the Hainan Daily newspaper.
According to the newspaper, the authorities are stimulating economic growth in these areas by attracting interested companies that are setting up cooperatives and joint-stock communities. Their aim is to focus multilateral efforts on competitive projects.
Some of these model villages are said to focus on supplying tropical fruits, while others specialize in the restaurant and entertainment industries, as well as the fishery sector. An integrated system of interaction between the government and the private sector is expected to continuously improve the well-being of residents in the rural communities that are administratively subordinated to Sanya.
This mode has the great advantage of promptly solving the problem of a shortage of capital, the paper notes. In turn, investors are given easier access to the land they need to establish sectoral production. As for the government, it removes obstacles and promotes a favorable environment for the successful development of this program.
Sanya is one of the key centers of Hainan's economic development, with services providing a large part of its income. The island's administration plans to turn the city into a leading financial and economic center with an advanced infrastructure that will house the headquarters of major Chinese and foreign companies.
