Hainan establishes international center for resolving tourism disputes

2022-05-21

HAIKOU /China/, May 18. /TASS/. South China's Hainan province has created an arbitration center for settling international tourism and sports disputes. This was reported by China News Service.

The institution is located in Haikou, the administrative center of the region, according to the report. It will be headed by the Hainan Sports and Tourism Association management, which together with the International Arbitration Court of Hainan established this center to promptly resolve disagreements.

According to local authorities, tourism is one of several strategically important industries in the province. Hainan also plans to hold more national and international competitions, including competitions in cycling, sailing, surfing, wrestling and beach soccer.

Thus, with the steady increase in the flow of tourists and sports enthusiasts to Hainan, authorities are expecting an increase in risks that could lead to controversial situations. A modern and reliable mechanism will be needed to prevent and manage them. With this mechanism, the island's administration plans to effectively solve the relevant problems and ensure the harmonious development of tourism and the cultural and humanitarian sphere.

Assistance to companies in hiring qualified lawyers and legal training courses will be among other issues that the new arbitration center will deal with.

According to statistics, the number of tourists visiting Hainan in 2021 increased by almost a quarter, to 81 million people. The province's revenue from tourism activities over the same period rose by about 60% to 138.4 billion yuan (about $22 billion). According to the official plan, these figures will increase by 10 and 15 percent, respectively, taking into account the pandemic this year.
