A delegation from South China's Hainan province held events in Indonesia February 16-20 to strengthen trade, economic and cultural ties, according to Hainan Daily.

The newspaper reported that officials and representatives of Indonesian business communities got acquainted with the prospects and development strategy of Hainan Free Trade Port. The main focus, as noted, was to promote cooperation in communications, cultural and humanitarian contacts, tourism, projects related to public education and tropical agriculture.

During their visit to Indonesia, the Hainan delegation organized a presentation of Hainan's economic potential. Meetings were held with heads of Indonesian departments in charge of tourism and investment cooperation, as well as with the leadership of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Secretariat.

In addition, a meeting was held with the administration of Hainan's Indonesian sister-province of Bali. The parties signed documents to promote inter-regional cooperation.

As the newspaper added, investor and compatriot events were also held.

Hainan maintains close contacts with members of ASEAN. According to the official plan, the island will play an increasingly important role in the economic interaction between China and the member countries of the association. In this regard, the province is constantly expanding the scope of regional contacts at all levels, seeking to promote large-scale mutually beneficial projects.
